I set this still life up with an eye to the colors and "flow" of the composition. As I worked on it, I tried to represent what I saw with an economy of means, so that the eye recognizes what is there without being distracted by unnecessary detail. When I chose the pink background, I immediately thought of Matisse and his color sense. I thought the pink background was a bit of a risk at the time, but I think it works.
